Course outline
Many businesses are still struggling to recover following the COVID-19 pandemic and the cost of living crisis has slowed the economy. Businesses will need to take advantage of the available tax breaks to help them grow. This course will provide a broad understanding of the various tax reliefs available to growing businesses.
As well as a good business idea successful businesses will need equipment, be able to attract and retain good people, and a source of finance to help them expand. There are generous tax breaks that can help with this crucial growth and recovery phase.

- Tax relief for goodwill and intangibles
- An overview of research and development tax relief
- An overview of the “patent box” which provides a lower rate of tax on patent income
- Tax efficient sources of finance, including EIS and Seed EIS
- Attracting and retaining key staff using EMI and other share schemes
Course speaker
This course is presented by: Ros Martin
Ros Martin is a consultant and lecturer covering all aspects of direct tax and Stamp Duty Land Tax. She was an Inland Revenue fully trained Inspector until 2000 having worked in the Large Business Office as well as in the local district network. She left to become a consultant advising on tax planning for businesses and individuals as well as dealing with full and aspect enquiry work. She has since branched out to include lecturing in her business. The consultancy work gives Ros a particular opportunity to understand the key issues of concern for such professionals and consider the practical aspects of the application of legislation.
