Payroll can be one of the highest expenses for a business and so getting it correct is vital. The payroll system needs to be accurate, secure and timely and organisations must ensure they remain compliant. However, the everchanging regulations and responsibilities can make it tricky to navigate.

That’s why it’s necessary to understand the bottlenecks involved in the payroll process so your organisations can manage it efficiently.

Our Introduction to Payroll course is ideal for those new to payroll and will provide a comprehensive overview on the fundamental elements of payroll processing.

We will walk you through the basics and provide a number of practical exercises to implement and cement your knowledge.

You will leave with a clear understanding of the basics of payroll having covered (the core skills required to administer the payroll function) topics including:

  • Requirements and routines of a payroll system
  • The difference between employees and self-employed persons
  • Gross pay
  • Statutory entitlements, including Statutory Sick Pay
  • Income Tax and PAYE system
  • National Insurance
  • Processing Leavers and Starters

Individuals in the early stages of studying accounts, or those who wish to learn about the basics of payroll, to help develop their skill.
