Course outline

This course will update you on changes in payroll taxes and the administration of payroll for the 2023/24 and 2024/25 tax years, and will look at key risk areas in this type of work, highlighting what advice is currently relevant to smaller businesses and in particular owner managed companies.

Course content 

  • Payroll tax changes – PAYE and NIC thresholds; changes affecting the basic operation of PAYE and NIC; Scottish and Welsh tax changes overview; minimum wage update and compliance issues
  • National Minimum wage compliance – the latest news and guidance from HMRC
  • Changes to taxation of benefits in kind in the last 12 months; future changes that have been announced; amendments to earlier changes
  • Reimbursed expense issues – compliance checking and issues to raise with clients; travel to temporary workplaces and recent guidance
  • P11D points to watch
  • Off-payroll working – a quick review of the practical issues and the best way to approach engagements of this nature.

Course speaker

This course is presented by: Rebecca Beneyworth

Rebecca is a lecturer, writer and consultant on a wide variety of taxes. She lectures extensively to accountants and business people and also to HMRC and the Treasury. Rebecca is well known for her down-to-earth approach to tax and her ability to make the subject matter both clear and interesting, and she was named Best Tax Lecturer at the Taxation awards in 2007. She also has an interest in all issues affecting smaller practices and has her own small accountancy practice based in Gloucestershire. Rebecca has also been Chair of the ICAEW Tax Faculty.
